Scale Degrees

Scale Degrees

Similar to chord inversions, scale degrees are the process by which each note in a scale stair-steps to become the starting point of new scales; each new scale resulting from the stair-stepping process is called a mode. Study the diagram above; this stair-stepping process (of modes) is also known as scale steps, and the diagrams on the following pages can be considered scale steps diagrams.
