Each Scale Degree Represents a Mode

Each Scale Degree Represents a Mode

Modes are the “scales” generated by this stair stepping process. Sometimes modes will have formal names. However, with 2,048 possible modes, most often they do not. And since there are so many modes, scale degrees can be used to name modes without formal names. If a mode does not have a formal name, they can be named numerically using scale degrees, such as the Suspended Pentatonic II, Suspended Pentatonic III, and so on.
