All Scales Are Modes But Not All Modes are Scales

All Modes are not Scales

Every mode can be assessed as if it is a scale unto itself; that is, it has its own interval structure and overall sound to it—in the same way that maj3/1 sounds different from maj3 in root position. However, this book seeks to differentiate scales from modes in that a scale is considered the most symmetrical or balanced mode amongst all the other modes and generates all the other modes. In other words, a scale is considered the master mode.
