Since all the modes above contain the exact same notes, only one of them needs to be diagrammed on the fretboard or keyboard to represent all five modes. However, if each of the modes above are thought of individually and scale degrees are not used, it would take 60 fretboard and keyboard diagrams to represent all the modes above in each key (5 scales x 12 keys). This is a mistake made by many scale encyclopedias where modes are not used. Because of modes, we can condense these 60 diagrams to one scale in each key, with each note in each key representing the other modes. |
