In Specific Keys, Modes Represent Specific Notes

The key note of a scale is similar to the bass note in chords. It defines the note that the scale begins from and dictates all the other notes in that scale. Study the diagram above. Each of the modes contain the exact same notes. The only variation is which note they begin. A song can be written in any scale and in any key. All the other scale steps are considered modes of that scale.
