Modes Simplify Scales

Mode Analysis

Since all the scales above contain the exact same notes, only one of them needs to be diagrammed on the fretboard to represent all five modes. However, if each of the scales are thought of as individual entities and modes are not used, it would take 60 fretboard diagrams to represent all the scales above in each key (5 scales x 12 keys). Because of modes, we can condense these 60 diagrams to one scale in each key, with each note in each scale representing another mode.
